Poveglia Island, Venice, Italy
The small island of Poveglia has a history that makes it one of Earth’s creepiest places to visit. For hundreds of years, this was the place where sick, diseased, and condemned individuals were exiled. This includes people suffering from the Bubonic Plague. For a chilling history lesson, it doesn’t get much better than Poveglia.

Paris Catacombs
The Paris Catacombs are an underground network of tunnels containing the remains of more than six million humans. As a tourist, you can walk these ancient pathways lined with skulls and other bones. The reason for its existence was simply the overflowing of Paris cemeteries. However, it doesn’t make it any less terrifying.
