Surprising Facts About SPF and Sunscreen

What About Vitamin D?

Another common misconception is that vitamin D from the sun is necessary. While sun exposure has a ton of great health benefits, cooking yourself in tanning oil, will not do you any favors. Protect yourself with sunscreen, hats, and protective clothing and you can reap the benefits of sunlight safely. Research shows that the people who spend more time outdoors tend to weigh less, be more physically active, have better mental health and are in better physical shape. This isn’t from tanning in a lawn chair, however. People who are outdoors are usually doing more physical activity and absorbing more positive nutrients from the environment. UVA light is actually shown to lower blood pressure. In a nutshell, it’s important for your health to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Just remember to always sunscreen your face at least. Protect your face with a hat whenever possible as well. For the rest of your body, when your arms and legs are exposed, it will take twice as long for those to burn depending on your skin tone so when you’re going for a quick jog, you should be fine only putting sunscreen on your face. The longer you are outside, however, the more you’ll need to lather on SPF everywhere.
