Making Sure Her Homework is Done

After a certain age, your teen should be keeping track of assignments due as well as any upcoming quizzes or tests. After all, school is literally her job. You wouldn’t ask your boss to help you keep track of everything you’ve been assigned. He or she would just expect you to get it done. You should have the same attitude when it comes to your teen. You shouldn’t have to look over her shoulder to monitor her work or check in on her grades. She should be doing what she knows to do and getting the work done without someone holding her hand.

Calling Her Teachers

This may be a tough pill to swallow. You need to stop calling your teen’s teachers for updates or questions. Take a step back and let her communicate with her teachers if she has a question or concern. If there are any issues that the student is unable to resolve with the teacher then you can step in. That will teach her to step up to the plate and communicate when she has a problem. When your teen goes off to college, you can’t just call or visit her professors any time she has an issue. It would make her look immature and unable to handle herself. She has to voice her concerns and questions on her own. Let her learn that now.
