It’s Time for Your Teen to Start Doing These 8 Things on Her Own

Washing Her Clothes

Scary Mommy

You may be your teen’s mother but you are certainly not her maid. After doing her laundry all of this time, she has probably gotten used to it and, more than likely, has taken your hard work for granted. Stop washing her clothes for her when she’s old enough to do it herself. Each week, she should take time to sort, wash, dry, and fold her own things. Plus, your teen needs to learn how to wash her own clothes for when she moves out on her own. She certainly can’t expect to come back to you then to do her laundry!

Worrying about Her Plans After Graduation

Joy Andrews / One Joyous Heart

This is another big moment of letting go. Though you certainly want the best for your teen, you have to let her make her own choices when it comes to her life. That includes her plans after high school graduation. You can most certainly give her advice to help guide her in the right direction, but don’t force her to go to a college or pick a major just because of your beliefs. Don’t force her to go to school at all if she doesn’t want to. Instead, let her figure things out on her own and learn from her mistakes. If you’ve raised her to handle herself well, she’ll be just fine.
