New Year, New Start!

We all strive to improve our day-to-day life and experiences for our family. As we settle into the new year, now is an excellent time to think about some new goals for your family! Here are some ideas for a New Year, New Start!

Game Night

It may seem daunting to plan a family game night every week, so don’t! If a weekly event is too much for your busy family, make a plan to have a game night once a month or every other weekend. You can plan for a longer game like Monopoly or go for a shorter game like Sorry; it all depends on how much time you have! Game night is a great item for you New Year, New Start list.

Family Meal Time

Commit to sharing mealtime as a family. Make a plan that will work. If the weekdays are busy with work and school, followed by evening activities, skip the unattainable goal to have a nightly family dinner; instead, consider Saturday breakfast together. Planning a family meal needn’t be stressful; take it a week at a time if you must! Family meals are a great thing for your New Year, New Start list.

Housework

With today’s busy lifestyle, it’s hard to keep up with the house. Sharing the load will help! Everyone in the family can pitch in, with the younger children putting their toys away and helping with dishes and the older children taking the trash out or getting laundry together. If you can, outsource regular keep cleaning.

New Adventures

Have each family member write down things they’d like to do together during the upcoming year. Some ideas may be a picnic in the park or a day at the amusement park. The options can be bounded to your local area or within a 2-hour drive, whatever works for your family. Make it a goal to go on an adventure once a month or every other month! You can pull an idea, written on slips of paper, out of a hat, or use the list of ideas as a foundation as you plan your outing!

Making goals for your family doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Make plans that will work for you! If a goal falls through, adjust it! The key is creating opportunities to be together. In this busy world, connecting with those most important to you is priceless. Good luck with the New Year, New Start!
