3. AIM Username

In 1997, American Online unveiled its messaging service known as AOL Instant Messenger. Through AIM, kids were able to continue the conversation from school with friends.  While Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger were also active, AIM had a friendlier appeal to kids.

All good things must come to an end, though. 20 years after its launch, AIM was discontinued.
