Home Alone may have been a popular movie in the 80s, but a lot of kids lived it in real life.
This was the decade of the dual-income family, and there was a rise in single-parent households. As a result, the kids had to let themselves in the house, do their own homework, and do household chores. This created a sense of independence that some of today’s kids lack.
