A narcissist by definition does not care about others, even their own kids. When childhood involves parents who never listen to even valid complaints, people grow up to be reluctant to express their opinions. And getting angry is out of the question because the parent will always be angrier and more powerful. So people brought up in this environment tend to avoid confrontation at all costs. This trait can cause a host of stress-related diseases and conditions.

An adult still caring for an aging parent didn’t necessarily have a supportive upbringing. Narcissistic parents may demand continual care as if the adult child had no independent identity, even when the parent could afford another arrangement. This isn’t a typical caregiving relationship.
