10 Things Your College Son Actually Wants for the Holidays

I have received many holiday gifts throughout my long life—20 years to be exact—and while I will never turn down a present, the vast majority of my gifted gifts have been relegated to a box of items, never to be seen again. So, what are things your college son wants?

While everyone needs clothing, most college guys do not want to be dressed by their parents. We love you, just not your perception of ‘hip’ styles. I cannot count the number of thoughtfully selected jackets and shirts I have received and had no intention of ever wearing. While you may have found that item, the rare one that we college guys would wear, I personally would not advise taking the risk of giving him clothes.

Some parents know precisely what their son may want, whether a new book from a loved author, tickets to a favorite musician’s concert, or a gift card to their favorite restaurant. For everyone else, continue reading to get advice from a current 20-year-old male college student who would love these as holiday gifts.

When I think about the holidays, I envision sitting around a fireplace with hot chocolate in my hand and family all around. Your college son may not admit it, but college can be lonely, and holidays away from the family or returning to college after the holidays can make college seem even more lonesome. Gifting your college son with something to bring him that cozy holiday feeling would make a great holiday gift, and I am sure that the gifts I’m listing below will do just that.

Fuzzy Fluffy Fleece Cozy Sleep Crew Socks

These Comfortarians Fuzzy Fluffy Fleece Cozy Sleep Crew Socks would make a great holiday gift.  Not only are they incredibly comfortable with their double-layer soft fit, but they are also personalizable. Personalized Hot Chocolate Holiday Mug

Blue Lion Design Shop has done it again. This Etsy Star Seller has made another excellent holiday gift for your college son. Nothing beats a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day, and this personalized Hot Chocolate Mug would be a great gift for a college student. Whether in a dorm or apartment, mugs are college student commodities, and this hot chocolate mug will both remind your son of home and help make his life much easier.

For a parent wanting to give their son a more practical gift, Walmart carries a wide range of well-priced and high-end electronics any college student would absolutely love to receive as a holiday gift.

Apple iPad Air

The Apple iPad Air is pricey but also an ideal holiday gift. Tablets are an incredibly underrated help for college students. Tablets make studying, taking notes in lectures, and streaming all so much easier. I promise you that your college son would use and love this tablet as a gift . . . and think of you when he does! So, if you’re feeling generous, this is definitely a thing your college son wants.

Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

While not inexpensive, Walmarts SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is an excellent alternative to an iPad. It functions much like iPad and would make a great holiday gift for any college student. In addition, Walmart is selling the tablet and including the Samsung Pen, which will help your college son use it to its fullest potential.

HP Athlon N3050

The holidays are a great time to get your son a new computer. College students depend on computers, making them a great holiday gift. This well-priced HP Athlon N3050 is an excellent student laptop. I use one for college coursework and don’t know what I’d do without it.

Keurig Coffee Maker

Laptops and tablets are great holiday gifts for students, but a coffee maker is another excellent, often overlooked option. Almost universally, college students don’t get enough sleep, and the go-to solution for this problem is coffee. The amount of money I have spent on coffee is appalling and gifting your son a Keurig this holiday season will help him save money, time, and energy.

Are you a goofy type of parent? Whether yes or no, getting your college son a humorous gift is an excellent idea. Laughter makes everyone happy.

Don’t do stupid sh*t pillow

I genuinely believe that one can never have too many pillows, and this WackyMacaron pillow will bring a smile to your son’s face. A pillow may seem like an untraditional gift, but I assure you that extra pillows are a dorm or apartment necessity, and this pillow would serve as a functional gift with a side of chuckles.

Witty scented candles

Not to overgeneralize, but the average young male adult’s apartment or dorm doesn’t usually smell that great. This scented candle not only smells incredible but also has a witty tagline sure to bring your son a holiday smile. If not for your college son, buy this gift for any guests he may have over.

College pet-themed portrait

For college students like me, being away from home is tough, but the most challenging thing might be being away from our pets. Many young male adults lack wall decorations, and this funny personalizable college pet-themed portrait would be a great addition to any student’s room. Surprise your son with this perfect funny holiday gift!
