In a time when movies could only be viewed at the theatre or a couple of years later on television with tons of commercials…the home video player was an enormously big technological hit.
Consumers were, in addition to the large price tag saddled with the decision as to whether to purchase the bulky less expensive VHS tape or the more compact and better resolution Betamax; for some reason, VHS won.
