Jazz Gets a Funk Makeover
Prior to the 70s, jazz music sounded great but it stayed in the subgenres of hard bop, avant-garde, and cool jazz. That all changed in the 70s. We saw jazz’s funk makeover with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Donald Byrd, Chick Corea, Weldon Irvine, and several others. Even jazz legend Miles Davis experimented with funk music.
