2. Hurricane Katrina

One disaster we are all familiar with occurred right here in the United States. On August 23, 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, causing extensive damage to the coastal states from Florida to Texas, as well as Cuba. Louisiana suffered the most damage, costing billions of dollars to rebuild. Over 1,800 people lost their lives to this category 5 hurricane, which was the costliest hurricane to hit the Atlantic coast.
