5. California Wildfires-2018

This past wildfire season proved to be the deadliest and most devastating in California’s history. Over 8,000 wildfires caused destruction to at least 1.8 million acres of land. Over 100 people were killed in the fires and the damages caused were well over 3.5 billion dollars. The worst of the wildfire season occurred in August, with a national disaster being declared on August 4th, but a second round of wildfires caused even more damage in November, leaving 18,000 structures destroyed and 86 more people dead.
