Davey began taking pictures of Alice when she was one year old. It would soon become a series, entitled Looking for Alice. Davey hoped that it would help to shut down stereotypes around the disorder, but she had to get prepared for the emotional project.

The photographer wanted to mentally prepare herself before she even started the project. She took the time to reflect on what she wanted the project to say. “Once I was clear on the psychological and political aspects that I wanted to be present in the work, I felt I could begin,” she told the British Journal of Photography. She spent two years working on it before she felt it was finished but she was determined to let the work flow effortlessly.
